A somewhat diminished “Time Out” group headed into the city on a cool rainy day. Our first stop was Edge Glass in Vredenburg Lane (Off Long Street). Our visit to this fascinating glass studio was made more special by Tom whose enthusiasm about the work he does came through – “loud and clear”. We were shown how he and Barbara made their exquisite glass beads which are made into wonderful jewelry. I believe the cherry-on-the-top for us all was when Abraham showed us the windows he is making for the new chapel which the retired nuns will be using at the Springfield Convent in Wynberg. They are truly beautiful and such an extreme work of art on which Abraham has been working for months!
Our next stop was the V&A Waterfront and the Market on the Wharf. This is a fascinating food market which is adding a lot of interest to the V&A bustling complex. This market serves an amazing range of foods – anything from cupcakes, to noodles, to fresh vegetables, to amazing charcuterie, to cheeses – the list goes on and on! For me, I must say I enjoyed a new taste sensation – I always love a cup of tea and Bubble Tea provides a taste sensation – a cold iced tea and your choice of a myriad of flavors to which they add ‘bubbles’ of flavor – I chose a lemon tea with lychee bubbles – you drink this mixture through a large straw and the bubbles ‘explode’ in your mouth with flavor!
It was a good time to catch up and for me personally I appreciated this – sometimes with the larger tours I barely have time to talk to everyone but I now had the time to sit and chat to the ladies – great stuff!
Lunch was at the Hildebrand Restaurant which commands a beautiful position on the Waterfront. I was extremely glad that we were seated at an indoors table. No sooner had we started our lunch than the heavens opened! It was warm and snug sitting and watching the activity on the water whilst enjoying a delicious lunch.
After lunch we had a bit of fun at the new ‘picture frame’ installed at the Waterfront. It is well positioned for photographers to take advantage of our beautiful mountain. It was amazing to see the ‘reluctance’ of our group to all get assembled in position for a photograph. By the time we had secured a tourist to take our photograph (so that for once I could be in the photo as well), everyone relaxed and a beautiful photo was the result.
An early home-coming had the Constantia ladies at their centre by 15h30 and Tableview by just after 16h15. A fabulous time spent on a cold wintry day with a special group of ladies – thank you – these days are good for my soul!
