Traveltime Spring Flowers 2019 USA Group 26-30 August 2019
Extremely few Americans come to South Africa to do what my nine travelers and I are doing right now in Clanwilliam in the Cedarberg Mountains. Most Americans believe Africa” means “lion” and little else. Lions are one of my principal passions, but particularly when pursued in southern Africa I actually think there are other kinds of attractions that are more interesting and exciting. Like …flowers. This was our first day on the spring wild flower tour and it was fabulous!
Let’s start with some eye-openers for you. The day began at 29 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s just a tad below normal. In the course of our bus drive about 150 miles north of Cape Town the sun managed to come out a few times and warm up the veld to the low 60s.

Included in my happy memories are the days we spent on your Spring Flowers tour. Coming on that trip was the fulfilment of a long-held dream, and it was truly fantastic to see all the beautiful flowers and the superb beaches. Both were greatly appreciated, and I took lots of photos, which my friends have really admired. I will tell them all about the trip when I return to Durban!
We also enjoyed meeting lots of different people, and hearing about their lives, as we chatted during meal times. I have to compliment you on choosing wonderful places in which to enjoy our lunches and dinners. The picnic on the beach was a great start to the tour, and will always remain in my memory. The food was absolutely superb, and very impressive. Please give the chef at the Blaauwberg Hotel my praise! I will definitely patronise that hotel in the future!
On this beautiful day, my thoughts go to that amazing day spent with Time Out in Gordon’s Bay yesterday. I am absolutely bowled over by the tumultuous amount of work you put into every detail of that birthday celebration – initial planning and what went into it – and the great recording of our past tours so skilfully presented – the individually processed bags and cards – gift wrapping and really absolutely everything. Thanks to both of you – I am just sorry I did not know of these tours before – but better late than never! May you go from strength to strength and I look forward to all these carefully planned surprises as long as I am able to participate.
It was a delightful and wonderful day once more yesterday. You and Brian went to a lot of trouble and work for us and it certainly paid off.
Winning the prize for the Hylton Ross full day tour for 2 was just the cherry on the top. Absolutely wonderful I’m so thrilled and thank you again. I’m looking forward to our next outing in September. I made friends with Ankie on her first trip. We are both Dutch she is a delightful lady.
After such a festive and joyful day, I am in bed exhausted. Amazed at your stamina, of both you and your husband, and your organizational skills – What a day and what planning. The way you can stretch each person’s contribution is phenomenal. Thank you, so well done, that is all I can say, in admiration.
Hi Carol and Brian – I have been truly blessed to be part of Time Out, you both go to so much trouble for which I say a huge big thank you – it was great to share today with you – now you both need to rest a bit.
Thank you for a lovely day out. Suzie and I had a lovely bottle of wine and Irish coffees to celebrate our birthday month too! Both you and Brian are looking well, and you haven’t seemed to have aged over the years I have known you. There travel is good for you – keeps you active, interested and young.
Thank you very much for an interesting and enjoyable day. You are amazing in combining so many qualities in one person: exceptional organizational abilities, and endurance to hang in there for the long haul. This you combine with a sensitivity for people’s needs, noticing little details about the people around you; hence the touching photograph of Marie and me you forwarded to me, the gift to compliment people when warranted, as opposed to the very human urge of first of all criticizing. It was a most enjoyable day, and having been out that way over the years, and having camped at their campsite with our caravan, it was almost scary to see how the place had grown. The cherry on the cake was Boytjie as tour guide! He turned the trip into a very meaningful excursion with his stories and anecdotes.
