We headed out to Wellington with bright clear skies and even though there was a promise of substantial rain it was not evident! We had 42 people on board – a record for May when generally numbers are down due to the bad weather – 21 each from Constantia and Tableview.
Our passengers provided another record – Three Brenda’s; Three Ann’s; Two Carol’s; Two Heather’s and Two Pat’s.
As we drove out to Wellington the clouds seemed to be banking. Our first stop was at the Safari Dried Fruit Shop in the Main Road of Wellington. New owners, Danielda and Johan Viljoen rolled out the red carpet to welcome the eager shoppers. The dried fruit at this store is always so very fresh and their tills rang happily. Sincere thanks for the fabulous hamper which was given to Carol as a gift for the upcoming anniversary luncheon in July.
By the time we had all gathered what we wanted (or needed!!) at the Dried Fruit Shop the last 2 ladies had to come out accompanied by Brian and an umbrella. We drove in light rain to the Dunstone Wine Estate.
Amazingly when we arrived the rain let up and it allowed us all to do a ‘site inspection’ of their Guesthouse accommodation and hear all about their Winter Special of Dinner/Bed & Breakfast for R600 per person (a very good deal!). On completion we made our way back to the Restaurant – Stone Kitchen. Just in time as, once again the heavens opened up.
Their young wine maker, Neil was on hand to tell us all about the Dunstone Wines – an excellent marketing pitch. It was evident in the number of bottles that were purchased to take home.
We enjoyed a very good lunch of Karoo Lamb Chops accompanied by garlic mash and fine green beans. Dessert was an individual lemon meringue tart which the people at my table pronounced excellent enough to compete for Master Chef!
The service was excellent at the Stone Kitchen – Peter, Neil, Abbi and the very attentive staff – you are to be congratulated.
By the time we were ready to go home it rained again but this time it didn’t worry anyone as we had all enjoyed a marvelous lunch, spent time chatting and catching up with friends and at the end of the day, all realized how very important these days are in our lives!
Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you really want is someone who
will take the coach with you when the limo breaks down.
