The Western Cape has been experiencing a very harsh winter. Far colder than previous years, but not nearly enough rain! The result is that the flowers have been late in presenting themselves! On a visit to the Park on the 12th August there were only small patches of flowers. Yesterday (29th August) as our coach entered the park with 14 on board, the sun tried to peep through very dark clouds.
We headed down to Tsarbank to pause a while and look at the views over the raging sea. Of the 14 on board, 3 had never ventured into the park before. It was special for us to be able to show them the West Coast National Park ‘with pride’.
On entering Postberg Flower Reserve at about 11h30 it was still overcast but what greeted us was something resembling ‘pure gold’. In past years Traveltime and Time Out Ladies Club have entered the park annually but have never witnessed the splendour we saw today. The fields of yellow and white flowers on entering, were compared with the fields of blue and pink nearing the top of the hill overlooking the lagoon (Lookout point). One can only stand in awe and marvel at God’s creation……….by the time we had stood overlooking Langebaan and marveled at this view, everyone started to talk about how hungry they were!
A last drive along the exit road, but now with all the flowers facing the sun, (which now was out in all it’s splendor), the cameras rolled – one lady even took a video of the flowers! Beauty personified.
It was soon time to enjoy lunch at the Geelbek Restaurant. This had been pre-ordered and within 5 minutes of arrival it was brought to the table. Delicious spread and everyone soon relaxed and chatted around the table.
Then it was ‘dessert’ time – some ordered their unreal Carrot cake, or the hot Brandy pudding, either feeding at least 4!
En route back to the city for our first drop-off in Tableview we showed our video presentation of some Traveltime and Time Out trips over the last 15 years. A wonderful way to sit and relax as the kms ticked by!
Some tired, but extremely satisfied, flower people made their way home.
