A very happy bunch of ladies headed to Ceres on a damp, grey day! No matter what the weather throws at the Time Out Ladies they always come up smiling!
The 120km to Waverley Hills seemed to go-on-and-on and when we had to wait at a road work site the ladies were all likened to children asking “When are we going to get there??”
On arrival at Waverley Hills we were made to feel so very welcome. Lovely coffee on-tap was offered – some of the ladies preferred to taste their wine though!
Waverley Hills produce their own olives and these were served to the ladies along with their Organic Wine Jelly (Serve jelly with fresh crunchy bread, crackers and your favourite cheeses). Enjoy with venison or on sweet treats like pancakes, waffles and even as a sauce over ice cream; Olive tapenade: They produce a plain and a chilli tapenade which is made from their organic olives. Their tapenade is extremely popular and has a rich olive aroma and piquant flavour. It can be used as a topping on bruschettas, cheese platters or in pastas; Kalamata Olives: Their olives are picked at optimal ripeness and left to soak in brine for at least a year before bottling. The Kalamata olive is a black table olive cultivar, which is fleshy with a small pip. Their organic olives are hard to beat and many describe them as meaty and moreish).
Little snacks of their product were served to the table whilst Alize told us of all the top wine awards they have won recently. The Worcester Sauce Tannie, Johanna, who makes product under the label “Miss JL Hall’s Worcester Sauce”then told us her enchanting story of how she started making her product – with tasters of all her product, and the ladies soon had Johanna running out of stock.
Two of the gardeners from their indigenous and medicinal garden then arrived with a collection of the plants and they encouraged everyone to be pro-active with “sniffing and feeling” and gave us a very informative talk on what these plants can be used for!
Our lunch was grilled chicken breast filled with feta , mushroom and peppadew served with julienne vegetables, potato wedges and a balsamic glaze followed by a decadent dessert of Chocolate and hazelnut springroll with berry coulis.
We all left for our return trip feeling very satisfied from a good day-out! We did a different ‘loop road’ home which resulted in a shorter ‘travel time’ to reach the city and traffic chaos again!
