TOUR REPORT Red Table restaurant – Nederberg 28th August 2014
The Western Cape has once again been hit by severe weather conditions. Warnings of high winds and snow were predicted for our day out.
Our morning started off with cold conditions, but we were able to load the coach in Constantia and Tableview without any rain. En route to Paarl we encountered high winds which caused a weird situation in the large coach!
Our first stop was Buffet Olives situated on a 300 hectare farm in the foothills of the Drakenstein Mountain range in Paarl. What a warm welcome we received from Jennifer and staff. We were met on the lower level of their building and invited to upstairs to their showroom where we were given such wonderful tips on how to enjoy olives; how to look after them once the container has been opened and even good tips on Olive Oil.Many purchases later we all boarded the coach and headed just down the road to Nederberg and The Red Table restaurant!
We entered to find a big log fire burning and this added to lovely atmosphere – pity, however, that because of the wind outside (or was their chimney blocked) the restaurant was periodically filled with smoke!
A delicious lunch was served after the ladies had been offered a drink at their tables. Sherry seemed to be the ‘order-of-the-day’ and this certainly lifted everyone’s spirits!
Grilled chicken breast with potato fondant, mushroom duxelle, Broccoli florets & sage cream Belgium dark chocolate fondant with vanilla ice creamA lengthy lunch, chatting to friends is a sure remedy for a cold day and remarks were heard – “I’d rather be out here than at home for sure” “Oh wow what would I be doing at home today – household chores – rather be here”
The Nederburg Wine Tasting room was a popular destination and many bottles of their sought after wine came back to Cape Town with us.
We witnessed the setup of the flooring and tent for the upcoming, annual wine auction which takes place on 12th & 13th September. It is their 40th auction.
As we left Nederburg we encountered a bad storm again and ‘hats-off’ to the competent Hylton Ross coach driver who got us all safely back to Tableview and Constantia.
