| Included in the tour:
Day 1: Monday 14th May 2018
Our tour will leave the city of Cape Town by about 09h30 after the shuttles have collected everyone from their homes / guest houses. We travel up the N1 out of the city, through the Du Toits Kloof Tunnel. Just before passing through Worcester we will have a short stop where you can enjoy a coffee (not included).
This will have us in time for lunch at the Matjiesfontein Hotel. (224km from Cape Town). Lunch is always enjoyed in their pub, with the fire lit (in winter) and the honky-tonk piano playing in the background. It is hard not to be caught up in the happy atmosphere!
After lunch we drive an additional 100km which will have us checking into our accommodation – KambroKind Guest House in Sutherland by about 16h00. This superb 4* Guest House, situated in the Main Road, will make our stay in Sutherland very comfortable.
We will need to be ready by 6.00 pm to go out to Die Ou Meul in town, for dinner. Then it’s on to Sterland situated on the outskirts of town, where Jurg will present his introduction to the galaxy (a computer presentation indoors). This will be followed by an introduction (outside) to Jurg’s bank of computerized telescopes for an “up close and personal night with the stars!!
The dates chosen for this tour fall during the NEW MOON period and are an excellent time to view the stars. The Start of Winter is also the very best time to be in Sutherland as the winter skies are at their clearest and offer the best time for star gazing! You will certainly enjoy your evening with Jurg, the local Astronomy expert. A number of computerized telescopes allow you to get first hand information (and viewings) of some stars and planets! Be pre-warned that the temperatures can plummet in Sutherland at night, so make sure you bring along warm jackets, beanies, scarves and gloves.
Day 2: Tuesday 15th May
After breakfast we will head out of town up to the SALT telescope and enjoy a guided tour of their facilities. Part of the tour includes a visit up to the actual SALT telescope. Fabulous photo opportunity!
Lunch will be in town at one of the restaurants. In the afternoon you will be free to visit the museum in town / or a guided tour of the beautiful NG Kerk can be arranged / an exciting walk with Rita on the farm OR have some ME time in Sutherland. Dinner tonight will be at Cluster d’Hote where Anelia and Johan Marais will host you to a dinner par excellence! A fitting way to end our short stay in Sutherland. Johann (front-of-house) and Anelia Marais (chef) will extend their Karoo hospitality to you tonight!

Time permitting, we will stop at a Breedekloof Wine Estate (DuToitskloof) for wine tasting and to buy some of their excellent wine, before getting you back to the city by about 17h00.
