Day 1: Saturday 1st September
We collect you from your home or guest house in the city and head along the R27 towards the West Coast National Park. We go into Postberg Flower Reserve, which is only open during he months of August and September. Postberg is famous for the superb display of Spring Flowers ; the healthy animals you can see on the plains, the views of the sea at Plaantjiesbaai and the wonderful view of the ever-growing Langebaan from the view site at the top of the reserve. A day spent in the West Coast
National Park is one you will not easily forget! We enjoy a lunch at the Geelbek Restaurant before checking into our guest house in Langebaan. (L/D/E).
Day 2: Sunday 2nd September
Our second day finds us traveling to Clanwilliam, 180km from Langebaan. We will spend time in the Ramskop Nature Reserve where flowers are usually spectacular! There will also be time to do some tea ’gathering’ at the Rooibos Tea House. En route to Nieuwoudtville we will have a coffee stop at the Baghdad Café just before Vanrhynsdorp pass. We will check into our accommodation for the next 3 nights—The De Lande Farm 14km from Nieuwoudtville. (B/L/D/E).
This country style guesthouse is set in a fascinating landscape where three vegetations types and their respective geological formations converge—Renosterveld, Succulent Karoo and Dolerite Still! Relax in the evenings and let Mariette and her resident chef spoil you, and tickle your taste buds with their Karoo hospitality!
Day 3: Monday 3rd September
Today we spend time exploring Nieuwoudtville, Early morning coffee in the Quiver Tree Forest followed by a visit to the Nieuwoudtville waterfall (spectacular at this time of the year if rains in the area have been good!) Lunch at the Dutch Reformed Church bazaar. A guided walk around the Hantam Botanical Gardens. An afternoon visit to the Hantam Botanical Gardens is a must to do today. (B/L/D/E).
Day 4: Tuesday 4th September
This morning we exploring the flower fields outside of Nieuwoudtville. We have early morning coffee in the fields of the Matjiesfontein farm. A photographer’s dream—so many flowers to
capture! Lunch will be on the Papkuilsfontein farm (Die Waenhuis) – allow Alrie and her
competent staff to spoil you with a delicious lunch! Willem will take us on an afternoon guided tour of the Papkuilsfontein farm in an open game type vehicle! His expert knowledge of the area will be something you will always remember! (B/L/D/E)
Day 5: Wednesday 5th September
We take our leave of Vanrhynsdorp this morning after breakfast and before we head back to the city we will visit the Kokerboom Nursery, a world renowned succulent nursery in Vanrhynsdorp. We will also visit the Old Jail – a prison established in 1895 and lovingly restored by a local man. Time to shop for succulents before we head back to Cape Town (a lunch stop will be made en route to Cape Town. On arrival in Cape Town you will be transferred to your home/guest house (B/L).
