Our outbound trip will take us on the N1 to our first destination, Prince Albert, where we will be spending our first night on tour. Distance 408km.
After an early breakfast we will head to Camdeboo passing through Willowmore. Lunch will be in Aberdeen at a former Ostrich palace built in 1897 (and renovated lovingly by Lyn Dugmore).
Aberdeen is a distance of 55km from Graaff Reinet and from here we have a further distance of 60km to Mount Camdeboo Private Game Reserve. We plan to arrive mid afternoon, unpack and enjoy high tea at 3.30pm before heading out on a game drive at 4pm.
We will be fortunate to see Rhino (they don’t advertise the numbers to lessen the chances of attack—although in 2016 another rhino was poached—she had an unborn calf as well!!). They also have Giraffe, Warthog, Mountain Zebra, Buffalo, Cheetah and Kudu on the property.
There are 3 Manors on the property—Camdeboo; Courtyard and Hillside; all rooms are exquisitely decorated and very comfortable The day-by-day itinerary will be explained to us on arrival but you will experience 2 game drives—one at about 06h30 followed by breakfast. Another game drive follows High Tea at 16h00. The greatest excitement at Mount Camdeboo is the sublime scenery and of course, you will never forget tracking their cheetahs! Up close-and-personal, sends chills down your spine! And of course the sunset from the escarpment is another highlight you will remember for years to come!
On our last tour we arranged a visit to Nieu Bethesda. This can be arranged again in 2018 and will be subject to popular demand. The distance to be traveled to Nieu Bethesda means that you have to forgo the early morning game drive but we will make sure you are back at Mount Camdeboo by 15h30 to enjoy high tea and the afternoon game drive.
Nieu Bethesda is steeped in history and of course, has the Owl House (R50 entrance fee optional extra) – on this day your lunch will be for your own account!
If you choose not to go to Nieu Bethesda you can absorb the quiet of Mount Camdeboo; read a good book from their extensive library; have a beauty treatment with the African Angels. (manicure/pedicure/massage)
Rather than leave Mount Camdeboo for a second time during our short stay there, we will do this on the morning we leave the Reserve. You will be taken to the Valley of Desolation (25km from Graaff Reinet) – entrance included in your package!
We will check out of Mount Camdeboo on Thursday 14th and will arrange to have an early breakfast (7am), and leave the Reserve by 9am. After a short walk around the Valley of Desolation we will be back in Graaff Reinet by 11h30, have a short stop to photograph their stunning Church, which is a landmark in the area and will be ready to start our return trip via Willowmore & enjoy a lunch stop at Sophie’s Choice. (Not to be missed is a donkey cart ride around Willowmore!)
Our total distance to travel today is 413km and we will stop at Oudtshoorn for the night.
A full itinerary will be provided when we leave Cape Town on the 5th May!
