ROUTE 62 -2010
9th - 12th March 2010

Days 1 & 2

Not quite the Titanic, but the barge at Viljoensdrift served as an ideal platform for our three 'wannabe' actresses to act out their version of TITANIC!  Our lunch cruise on the Breede River proved to be a wonderful start to our 4 day trip away.  The food was attacked - "Hey I know you didn't have breakfast before you left home - but wow you looked SO hungry!"

Our trusty friends, Hylton Ross made sure that our trip started off according to plan even though the N1 had serious road construction! After several cell phone calls to the combi coming from Constantia instructing them the route, we arrived within 5 minutes of each other.  Coffee, tuna sandwiches (provided lovingly by Bridget and homemade biscuits by Ann) and we were off to Robertson.  In the photo above Trish and Bridget arrive at Viljoensdrift.  Sometimes the anticipation at the start of a tour is the most exciting part!

Linda and Joy immediately went into the little shop - Joy trying to make notes of the very clever way they had made some of the things on display.  Lunch was enjoyed - no-one even looked up at the photographer!

Trish and Denise deep in concentration listening to a good conversation!  Gubas de Hoek in Reitz Street, Robertson was one of the guest houses where 5 of the ladies stayed.

The Lemon Tree House in Robertson was the second choice for the rest of our party.  We all unpacked, had a short rest and then headed up to Gubas de Hoek where we found Denise already in 'rest' mode on the hammock with her book!  Denise had expressed such trepidation about the hot weather predicted but fortunately there was a change in climate and cooler weather accompanied us along our Route 62 trip.

Balbina had set the table with grape vine leaves, and lovely mealie dolls - such a good welcome to our braai in their garden.  Bridget and Linda smiled happily at the photographer!

Wednesday dawned with rain over breakfast.  Originally we were scheduled to go to the Protea Farm for their famous tractor ride.  At 8h20 we received a call that our trip was to be cancelled.  Thunder and lightning sighted as the reason!  Not deterred we headed straight onto Ronnies Sex Shop.  No problem gathering everyone for a photo.  Denise and Ann enjoyed their cool beers in the bar decorated with panties and bras!

The man photographed above apparently always wears this shirt- I am sure he IS Ronnie and this is his way of avoiding being asked a million questions by everyone who visits the famous shop on Route 62.  Second photo above shows Denise, Linda and Margot chatting and getting to know each other better.
