WEST COAST ART - JACOBSBAAI
8th - 10th February
2012 |
Day 1 |
Five
budding artists set out to Jacobsbaai
for our 3 session art course with Denis
Hilton-Lees. Denis is becoming so
special in our lives - his gentle, very
knowledgeable way of tutoring makes everyone
feel immediately at ease and art becomes so
much fun! |
Our first stop was a late breakfast at
Kaijaiki
- a little Dutch restaurant in Yzerfontein.
So good to sit back, relax and enjoy each
other's company en route to our art. |
The little hamlet of
JACOBSBAAI,
or as some say, JACOBS BAY, is
such a restful place - no wonder
inspiration for art comes easy.
You leave your troubles at home and
focus on yourself and being creative!
NOTHING BETTER |
The basis of art is a clean canvas & a good dose
of inspiration which comes from Denis and then
he leaves it up to you. He has a wealth of
material to choose from - so our paintings
ranged from fish/ a rowing boat/ a seagull on a
beach post to a fabulous country side panorama
complete with apple blossoms! Getting started
entails sketching your proposed artwork on the
canvas. |
After the first session the basis is set.
The acrylic paint has been applied and the start
of the masterpiece is forming. Dawn loved
her boat at times - and Gillie tried a new
background technique which Denis is admiring. |
Our luxurious accommodation at Whispering Whale
made checking in very special, and in no time a
bottle of wine had been opened and the chatter
was all about art / colours/ 'can I manage
tomorrow'? Leentjie cooked us a West Coast
dinner of Roast lamb / vegetables and apple
strudel which was exquisite to eat as the sun
set over the ocean. The second photo is of
another guest house in the area - Weskushuis
where Ruth, our driver stayed. |
