WEST COAST FLOWER TOUR

Friday 26th August

After the hectic traffic of the city has slowed down we will take our leave and travel up the R27 to the West Coast National Park Posberg within the Park has an excellent viewing of Spring Flowers.  One thing to remember when you are viewing flowers is that good sightings are dependent on clear skies, and full sunshine between the hours of 11h00 and 15h00.
To get maximum viewing I will arrange a picnic lunch for us that can be enjoyed between all the photography.  There is a lovely beach, and if it’s not too windy, this can be an ideal spot for a picnic.
We will take our leave of the West Coast National Park after 16h00 and travel to Darling which is no more than 25kms.  Our first night’s accommodation will be at Trinity Lodge / Darling Lodge

The 4-star graded Trinity lodge affords you comfortable, private accommodation in double en-suite bedrooms each tastefully furnished with hand embroidered linen and goose-down duvets. Modern country cuisine is served in the restaurant or on the patio overlooking the swimming pool under the old oak tree.  Sean McLaughlin runs this super guest house. His wife, Debbie, runs Hilda Kitchen on the Groote Post estate – selected as the Top 10 Al Fresco Restaurant by the Eat Out Guide recently.  Debbie will prepare our dinner for us tonight and serve it in the dining room at Trinity.

Saturday 27th August

At this time of the year, the wild arums flower profusely and are a wonderful photo opportunity.  We will take a slow amble to our next destination (Nieuwoudtville).

Nieuwoudtville is considered the Bulb Capital of the World and at this time of the year the fields of flowers are a treat to see.  In addition to the flowers, there are several places that are being added to this year’s tour – The Nieuwoudtville Wild Flower Reserve; The Waterfall Reserve; The Quiver Trees……..the list goes on.  It is for this reason that we will be spending 2 nights in a guest house in Nieuwoudville. Accommodation has been arranged at The Swiss Villa (graded 4*).

Sunday 28th August

We will remain at The Swiss Villa Bed & Breakfast for another night. There will be plenty to occupy our time today so please make sure your camera is in good working order

Monday 29th August

Our destination today is Clanwilliam. The annual Clanwilliam flower show in the Town Hall will be our first stop this morning. Of course, we will also visit the Rooibos Factory shop, and the leather shoe factory shop - Strassbergers Leather Shop.

Our accommodation tonight will be at the Piekenierskloof Mountain Lodge a short distance out of Clanwilliam, towards Cape Town.
