Napier is a beautiful
little town which in
recent years has become
home to many artists &
authors. The streets are
narrow and the houses
full of character.
Napier has become a
weekend getaway to city
dwellers and over
weekends you will find
the restaurants and pubs
filled to capacity with
mostly Capetonians
coming to enjoy the
fresh country air. |

Friday 17th June
We
take our leave of Cape
Town mid morning and
head over Sir Lowry's
pass towards Caledon,
and then on to Napier.
Before
checking in to our
accommodation we will
continue a few
kilometers past Napier
to Bredasdorp for a
light lunch at their
picturesque square.
Enjoy a hearty café
style lunch on the sunny
veranda with a view of
the town square and rose
garden. Catch the buzz
of town where locals and
visitors meet to Eat
,Sleep & Shop. The
courtyard offers a
shady, secluded spot
with the sound of gently
gurgling water from the
beautiful lily pond with
gold fish – a welcome
respite on a hot
summer’s day |

Arriving in Napier in the late
afternoon there will be time to
settle into your accommodation
at either
Aletta se Kuierhuis
or
the
Peace Valley Guesthouse.
Alletta se Kuierhuis
is located in a beautifully
restored farm house – is a 4*
rated guesthouse with homely
touches interspersed with chic
contemporary touches, with all
the little luxuries that you’d
expect! It is within walking
distance of the town’s
restaurants and shops.
Peace Valley Guesthouse
– on the outskirts of Napier,
Peace Valley has a true country
feel with a fir forest, a river
and two dams on the property.
Everything you’d expect in a 4*
guest house is on offer and it
is just a skip and a hop from
the
Jean Daneel
wine tasting room. |

|
From 16h00 onwards there will be
the
Napier Art Ramble at
various Napier Village
Galleries. (Does Art, Wine and
Music with Brendan, playing his
violin or trumpet sound good to
while away a Friday afternoon?)
Dinner tonight will be at
Dave’s
Country Kitchen about
3 kms out of Napier. Dave
Spilhaus is a delightful,
friendly guy who originally
worked at several restaurants in
Cape Town – On the Rocks;
Victoria Junction Hotel; Two
Oceans Restaurant and has also
spent time at Phinda in KZN.
Sleep well in the country
tonight. |

Saturday 18th June
Breakfast this morning is at
Reneessance at 09h00
where Renee is well known for
the quality of her food
presentation.
The main festivities for the
Patat Festival take place today
at the High School. They
include a Classic Car and
Vintage Farm Truck & Tractor
exhibition; the crowning of Miss
Napier and Mej Patatrankie (I
presume this is for the little
beauties!) at 11h00; followed by
a parade through town featuring
Miss Napier at 13h00.
If we get bored at the High
School, four of the
Town’s
gardens are open to
the public, which will be
interesting, I’m sure! (A
French inspired garden, a
structured indigenous
garden/cottage garden/vegetable
garden created from re-cycled
materials) |

|
At 5.00 pm we are booked to do a
Brewery Tour at
the Napier brewery.
Dinner tonight will be at
PASCALS

here – it doesn’t exist!
They serve “egte Suid Afrikaanse kos” or anything off their

your fancy, and it is here that we will
enjoy our last meal of the weekend away
together! |
