Time Out has not visited Somerset West for many years. This day in the month of May was a ‘different sort of a day’ in that we didn’t go to the wine area but to Bright Street in central Somerset West!
The Imibala Trust was started by the Rupert Family and essentially it helps under privileged children, equipping them with good ‘life values’. The Trust benefits from the Art Gallery; Restaurant and upmarket décor and home shop – all close to each other!
On arrival many of the ladies settled into the newly revamped garden and ordered coffee. Some went shopping – nearby is the Chelsea Village which has a great flower shop (Paradiso Flowers), 2 restaurants, and fabulous boutique shops where the Time Out ladies quickly parted with their ZAR’s!!
Everyone in these shops was asking whether we were the ladies ‘off the great big coach’!!! Full marks to our coach driver who managed to get the coach into parking with very little space on each side. (`Cinderella’s foot into the shoe?). Wonderful work Ashley!!!
By 12h30 everyone had gathered and we were ushered into the restaurant. Wine and drinks were ordered! Platters of divine fresh bread were placed on the tables. We were informed, table-by-table of the awesome work done by the trust. Our mains started arriving: on order were the following delicious main meals J
Lamb shank pie served with the bone sticking out of the pastry and packed full of meat;
A layered avocado/ smoked salmon / cream cheese – decadent and very tasty!;
Fish and chips – SO good that one of the ladies was dead keen to return within 2 days for more!;
Aubergine parmigiana;
Open mushroom lasagne – which looked quite decadent!
After our mains we were treated to dessert – off their dessert selection! Even banting cake for those who needed this.
By 14:00 we were ready to head out to the music/drama centre where we were invited in to sit in on a drama class with 13 to 14 year olds. They crept into our hearts and the lady who works with them deserves full praise for what she is doing with these children. Confidence gained in life is never lost!
By 15h30 we all headed back to the city via the Beach Road and Muizenberg brimming with emotions of a day spent with friends ; enjoyment of an awesome meal ; entertainment and, for some, shopping for their homes!
